Amy Long

Client Services Coordinator

I was born and lived in York, PA till 7years of age when we moved to Newport News, VA due to a family job transfer. I have always had a love for animals since I was very young. I was always bringing home something to be nursed back to health or a stray that just had to stay. Growing up I always had pets; dogs, cats, horses, snakes, lizards, ferrets and various pocket pets. I spent all of my free time growing up in the barn. I breed and delivered both of my mare’s foals. I enjoyed raising and breaking the foals. I have shown western and speed classes, excelling in Barrel racing with my horses. I was very active in the local 4-H club.

Through the years I have worked in various veterinary or animal care settings and absolutely enjoyed them all. These areas ranging from veterinary hospitals both small animal and equine, Bush Gardens Williamsburg petting zoo and Clydesdale horses, a barn/farm, a pet store, and pet sitting. I was torn between my love of animals and a growing human medical field. After high school I attended classes at the local collage then went on to graduated from Tidewater Tech with an MA in human medicine. After graduating I began working in a chiropractic and therapy office then on to a five doctor family practice. I loved the fast pace and the level of connection formed with the patients. I stayed there for several years when I decided my heart was definitely in veterinary medicine. I moved to Apex, NC in 2002 to attend CCCC Veterinary Medical Technology classes. After school I moved to Raleigh and finally settled in Durham with my long time boyfriend Ron, our son Jacob (2010), 2 dogs and 4 cats.

When I came to NC I worked in a clinic in Cary that provided a wonderful learning atmosphere full of opportunity. I worked there for 7 years until I moved to Durham. After becoming pregnant I reunited with Dr. Janine Sagris Dismukes whom I had worked with at the previous Cary Clinic. She offered me an amazing opportunity to stay home with my son and work for her practice.

I enjoy working in veterinary medicine. There is always an opportunity to learn and hone my skills. I take pride in my position and my ability to provide quality customer service for the client as well as being an advocate for the patient, our pets.

So Amy can have a flexible schedule to care for her son, she has a part-time position with Mobile Laser Vet and works from home. She is responsible for anwsering voicemails and emails for the clients; scheduling appointments; and facilitating ongoing prescriptions through our online pharmacy.
